💙 Rest in Peace Big Time Punga ❤️‍🩹

Sadly, on March 11, Big Time Punga suddenly collapsed and died, following a suspected collision with the track and another dog at a racetrack in Palmerston North. Her death marks the seventh this racing season alone.

She was raced to death by an industry that continues to fail hundreds of dogs just like her. This isn't just an accident — it's a consequence of an industry that puts profit before the welfare of animals time and time again.

Every dog's life matters, and the loss of Big Time Punga serves as a stark reminder of the unimaginable suffering inflicted on dogs in the name of 'entertainment' here in Aotearoa.

The New Zealand government made a pre-election promise to ban greyhound racing, and in light of these recent tragedies, we urge them to uphold their commitment and finally end this cruel industry.

Can't fathom why some humans consider this "sport' or fun - the $"s no doubt.

Meet Miss Ruby Roo, a sweet happy girl despite what happened to her in the past.

Trigger Warning – contains details of abuse, but it has a happy ending.

We were contacted by a kind lady whose daughter had rescued a neglected and abused dog and urgently needed our assistance. This one really pulled on the heart strings! This poor girl, with a throwaway-cant-think-of-a-better-name, (now changed) was not only starved, hit and then dumped in a park, but was burnt by her previous “owner” extinguishing his cigarettes on her. The first photo shows how utterly shut down she was and the second photo shows just some of the 20 odd burn marks, but she had been in care for 2+ weeks by the time this was taken.

We had an experienced foster home for her in Whanganui and so, with huge help from Angela and Ally from Sweet Noah, she arrived on a very wet Sunday (isn’t it so great when rescues work together, thank you, thank you so much).

Ruby has settled in well as you can see from her new photos. She is happy, forgiving (can’t say I would be!) and eager to learn. She has been friendly with all other dogs that she has met and strives to please her person. She has been vetted, spayed, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has had her first vaccinations.

Ruby is on the small side of medium, making her the ideal size to go everywhere with her new family. We are now opening applications for her adoption. She is situated in Whanganui. If you are interested in giving her a forever home where she will be honored and loved, please complete our pre-adoption form as a first step. www.jotform.com/aranrescuenz/questionnaire

This very handsome boy is Bronco. (more photos in the comments). He is 18 months old, desexed, and is a Malamute cross. Bronco urgently needs a new home and we are posting this on his owner's behalf. We have not met Bronco, but we are told that he is loving and friendly and good with children. He has tried to chase cats, so probably a cat free home is best. He barks loudly at strangers, and being a big strong boy, he does need more lead training and a capable sensible owner. If you are interested in meeting Bronco, please give Aaron a call for a chat. 0276325567 . There will be some checks made to ensure that Bronco's new home is the best! 🙂 ... See MoreSee Less

Parents!

All the signs 😢

Yep see that coming

Yup and bet that dog got in big trouble for that too. Humans need more training than dogs

God Almighty. 😡

Children need to be taught to respect a dog's space and never overwhelm it with "love", even though it's "cute". Puppies need constant rest like a small child, not to be hauled around by the stomach and never go near even the most placid dog which is eating, most dogs get grumpy if never left alone and it's up to adults to set an example. Teach your children well and they'll have a friend for life.

That makes me soooo mad 😡

Poor dog. Poor kid too, not her fault. Lousy adults.

Bloody useless parent for allowing this to happen. I would have bitten her to, so many ignorant owners. They arent teddy bears n need constant hugging. Kids need to be taught how to behave around dogs.

Good fucking job twats lucky it wasnt worse that poor dog!

Dumb adult holding that dog

Adults fault. People recording fault. Israel's fault . America's fault .

That stupid parent letting this girl that didn't know what or how to treat a dog because of the stupid parent letting this happen. The dog was obviously not at all happy, so it did what it had to do. Sadly the dog probably got punished or put down. And it wasn't the dogs fault.

The damn owners fault

People are STUPID

The parents need a good slap

Update on Franklin.

He did very well over night.

He is feeling happier and more energetic this morning, even doing some little barks.

Unfortunately he didn’t expel any worms overnight and is looking awfully bloated.

A lot more perky thou. 🐶🐶🐶

Thankyou to all involved getting him safe and on his way to recovery.

Come on New Zealand, we need to do better - although we know we’re preaching to the converted here.

This is Franklin, a puppy found dumped in a cardboard box at the end of a road. Where are his brothers and sisters? And who neglected him so badly and then threw him away like rubbish 😥 He was found by members of the public who put him up on FB free to a good home. He’s now with one of our volunteers and is getting some well needed TLC.

Please, if you cannot afford to desex your dog, contact a local rescue or SPCA, or get advice from your Council, to see if they can assist and take steps in the meantime to make sure your dog doesn’t breed. We’ve heard of people who are going to let their dogs have a litter so they can sell the pups to pay for desexing. Let’s tell you how that’s going to turn out…badly. Quite simply there are not enough homes and too many animals.

Take responsibility, be kind, be empathetic. We, and every other rescue, is sick of this stuff happening day in, day out 💔😥

Thank goodness little one you are in safe hands now 🥰🥰

How is Franklin doing

Does this pup have a fund account to donate to

Poor wee darling. He's lucky to be in your hands.

He needs all the best snuggles and love in the world

im getting so effed up with people having the gall to call themselves humas, we are fostering 2 pups, different litters but one found in a chilly bin with 4 siblings and she is the most sweetest thing eva

Yep...all the last if the litter that didn't sell, got too big and no one wanted them because they weren't a puppy. Dogs don't regret not having puppies!!! They don't NEED to have puppies.

Heartbreaking ❤️‍🩹

Blessed that we have people like you helping! Poor thing

Poor little pup hopefully he’s on a good path from now onwards

Just so so sad what a human will do to a living breathing being

People make me sick. How could someone do this to any living thing. It makes my soul break.

Poor little darling xx

Poor pups

Disgraceful 🤬 thank you for helping this poor puppa 😢🩷🙏

Absolutely heartbreaking..

Anybody who does that doesn't deserve to ever own pets.

Poor wee bugger, hope who ever treated this pup like this gets karma big time

How awful. Thank goodness for you guys.

I was going to take the poor baby in

The owners should be registered not the dog then there's more accountability.

O.M.G.the poor baby breaks ya ♥ .

😭

These humans won't give a dam !! Unfortunately too many animals end up in the wrong hands ,hope this poor little puppy will make it.Thankyou for helping him 😢 💔
