All of the advertised dogs below are CURRENTLY LOCATED IN WHANGANUI. We do not send dogs around the country except in special circumstances, so we prefer that you visit them in Whanganui.

TANK

Tank is a pretty Labrador cross, only 6 months old and in the pound through no fault of his. He has been a family dog, and is well behaved, housetrained and friendly.
Tank will be de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered and up to date with flea/worm treatments.
We don't know what he's like with cats, but as he's just a pup, there is no reason why he could not learn to behave well with all other animals, with the correct training

SOL
Sol is a big friendly 2 yr old brindle and white boy, who is currently 35kg. He's a mixed breed, and currently a bit underweight, so once he is up to weight he will be a big dog.
Sol will be de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered and up to date with flea/worm treatments.

ROCKO

Rocko is a little Jack Russell cross who is only 8 months old and already a pound rescue. He needs a loving home with excellent fencing, ie no squeezable holes! He is a friendly cheery typical little terrier. Rocko weighs 10 kilos so he's a big-little-dog/little-big-dog.
Rocko will be de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered and up to date with flea/worm treatments.
We don't know what he's like with cats, but as he's just a pup, there is no reason why he could not learn to behave well with other animals, with the correct training. We prefer a home experienced with JRs and foxies.

ROSCOE

Roscoe is a gorgeous Golden Labrador or cross, only 6 months old and in the pound through no fault of his. He is a very sweet natured and sensitive boy who loves people and wants to please and do his best.
Roscoe will be de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped and registered and up to date with flea/worm treatments.
We don't know what he's like with cats, but as he's just a pup, there is no reason why he could not learn to behave well with all other animals, with the correct training.

There is an adoption fee of $300 to contribute towards these costs. This is heavily subsidised for you and represents approximately half of what it would cost you normally.

All of ARAN dogs new homes must have a safe secure place for him to be while you are out. ARAN dogs cannot be chained to kennels or left for very long periods home alone. All ARAN dogs must sleep indoors.

Our adoptions start with a two week trial period, to make sure the dog is a good fit for you. If things don't work out they return to their foster home.

The first step if you are interested in adopting is to fill out an online adoption application which you can do here: www.jotform.com/aranrescuenz/questionnaire

This big hunk of love is Bono and he is needing to find his forever people. Bono is an ARAN dog, from the Waitomo pound originally, that has come back to us after his owner passed away, leaving poor Bono homeless. He’s approximately 8 years old.

In foster care he has been happy and friendly with other dogs and people and we believe he’d be ok with confident cats. Bono needs a home with daytime company, comfy beds, a dog sibling or a few play dates during the week. He does need to lose a little weight (ssshhh!) as he weighs in at about 32kgs. In return, you'll get a joyful Bono - we're told this boy is such a happy fella. He's currently located in Palmerston North and you’d need to come and meet him. Please email us at [email protected] to register your interest.

UPDATE: Dora is back up for adoption. It turns out this old girl is not so great with cats! Although she lived with cats happily in her original home, it seems she only liked her own cats and all others are fair game for harrassment! So we are seeking a cat free hone for Dora. We much prefer a home local/close to Whanganui or South Taranaki, because Dora is located in Patea.

LOCATED IN WHANGANUI/SOUTH TARANAKI Dora is the most lovely senior shepherd/kelpie type mixed breed, who is waiting for a loving home. Dora is not a big dog, she is medium sized and short-legged. Dora came to us when her elderly owner was no longer able to keep her. She will shortly be ten years of age, but she is active and well and still enjoys life very much. If you can offer Dora a happy place in her golden years, please complete our form, thank you 🙂 www.jotform.com/aranrescuenz/questionnaire

Beautiful well mannered dog. She is so loving and easy to have around. Except for the cats. Doesn’t take any notice of chickens or ducks. And was super good with our little dog. Very happy girl needing her forever place. Great in the car and at toileting. Anyone would be so lucky to have her. ❤️

ARAN stands for Animal Rescue Action Network because we believe in the power of networking and co-operation with others doing the same work. In this way we have been able to help more animals. One of the agencies who have been a great help to us for a number of years, is Wellington SPCA. A few weeks ago we were asked to help with six puppies in a small rural town, who were not well cared for. Our contact had managed to secure them but was not able to hold them for long, and we had no suitable foster homes available. We called on our friends at Wellington SPCA whom we know will help us if they are able at the time. Luckily for these babies, SPCA said yes they had some space coming up, and after a few days and some parvo testing to make sure they were OK, the pups were driven to Wellington by our volunteer. With the loving care they provide, SPCA prepared the pups to be ready for adoption. Please visit their puppy adoption page and see these little bugs, now looking healthy and happy and ready for a loving home. Mosquito, Spider, Bee, Grasshopper and Cricket. Little Cicada is already out in a trial adoptive home. Thank you Wellington SPCA, we greatly value our relationship with you! www.spca.nz/adopt?species=dogs&centres=wellington-centre&breed=all&size=all&animal_id=&minAge=&ma... ... See MoreSee Less

any idea of breed or future size of these wee babies

On the SPCA page it mentioned a medical waiver due to past medical issue?

💙 Rest in Peace Big Time Punga ❤️‍🩹

Sadly, on March 11, Big Time Punga suddenly collapsed and died, following a suspected collision with the track and another dog at a racetrack in Palmerston North. Her death marks the seventh this racing season alone.

She was raced to death by an industry that continues to fail hundreds of dogs just like her. This isn't just an accident — it's a consequence of an industry that puts profit before the welfare of animals time and time again.

Every dog's life matters, and the loss of Big Time Punga serves as a stark reminder of the unimaginable suffering inflicted on dogs in the name of 'entertainment' here in Aotearoa.

The New Zealand government made a pre-election promise to ban greyhound racing, and in light of these recent tragedies, we urge them to uphold their commitment and finally end this cruel industry.

This sort of racing needs to be banned, or have them race in a straight line and not on a hard surface, more like the beach would be a good place, but I'd like to see this end.

Can't fathom why some humans consider this "sport' or fun - the $"s no doubt.

A happy hello from our (not so) little Franklin. Now weighing over 5 kilos, he is a testament to what loving care can achieve. This puppy was probably only a few days from death, but is now starting out on his real life, full of fun and joy. Before photo added for those who didn't see his earlier posts. ... See MoreSee Less

ADOPTION PENDING

Meet Miss Ruby Roo, a sweet happy girl despite what happened to her in the past.

Trigger Warning – contains details of abuse, but it has a happy ending.

We were contacted by a kind lady whose daughter had rescued a neglected and abused dog and urgently needed our assistance. This one really pulled on the heart strings! This poor girl, with a throwaway-cant-think-of-a-better-name, (now changed) was not only starved, hit and then dumped in a park, but was burnt by her previous “owner” extinguishing his cigarettes on her. The first photo shows how utterly shut down she was and the second photo shows just some of the 20 odd burn marks, but she had been in care for 2+ weeks by the time this was taken.

We had an experienced foster home for her in Whanganui and so, with huge help from Angela and Ally from Sweet Noah, she arrived on a very wet Sunday (isn’t it so great when rescues work together, thank you, thank you so much).

Ruby has settled in well as you can see from her new photos. She is happy, forgiving (can’t say I would be!) and eager to learn. She has been friendly with all other dogs that she has met and strives to please her person. She has been vetted, spayed, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has had her first vaccinations.

Ruby is on the small side of medium, making her the ideal size to go everywhere with her new family. We are now opening applications for her adoption. She is situated in Whanganui. If you are interested in giving her a forever home where she will be honored and loved, please complete our pre-adoption form as a first step. www.jotform.com/aranrescuenz/questionnaire

This very handsome boy is Bronco. (more photos in the comments). He is 18 months old, desexed, and is a Malamute cross. Bronco urgently needs a new home and we are posting this on his owner's behalf. We have not met Bronco, but we are told that he is loving and friendly and good with children. He has tried to chase cats, so probably a cat free home is best. He barks loudly at strangers, and being a big strong boy, he does need more lead training and a capable sensible owner. If you are interested in meeting Bronco, please give Aaron a call for a chat. 0276325567 . There will be some checks made to ensure that Bronco's new home is the best! 🙂 ... See MoreSee Less
